years, the medical community has decided that a high level of cholesterol causes heart disease. While some will dispute this belief, there are other factors contributing to serious or even fatal heart conditions.

The medical experts, the Framingham Heart Study, that high blood cholesterol is a factor of CHD, or heart disease. This study showed that people with higher cholesterol levels tend to develop cardiovascular disease. On the other hand, it is unusual that people with low cholesterol levels suffer from CHD.

This connection between high blood cholesterol and heart disease was also confirmed by another group of experts, the studies showed that a reduction of total LDL-cholesterol (bad cholesterol) could actually the risk of cardiovascular disease. A recent series of studies with cholesterol statin drugs suggested that a reduction in both total and LDL cholesterol may significantly reduce the chance of heart attack, angioplasty (a bypass surgery) or death by coronary heart disease associated with the cause .

In addition to high cholesterol levels, there are other risk factors that increase the risk of developing heart disease. Although some risk factors to reduce with diet, medications or lifestyle changes, while others can not be changed. The combined risk factors you have, the higher your chance is with heart disease.

The main risk factors are unchangeable as follows:

* Your age. The main risks faced by women over 55 and men over 45

* Family history. If you have parents or siblings who died of heart disease at the age mentioned above, with a higher risk

Fortunately, some risk factors can be changed:

* Cholesterol. Their high cholesterol and high LDL or "bad" cholesterol. Reduce your levels of HDL or "good" cholesterol

* Reduce your blood pressure

* Stop smoking

* Diabetes (diabetes with a higher risk of developing heart disease)

* Little or no physical activity

* Lose excess weight

If you have one or more of these high-risk factors, see your doctor to find out how to take action and reduce the chances of suffering a heart attack.

Some experts believe that high blood cholesterol and heart disease are in fact connected. On the other hand, there are those who believe that too much animal fat, high cholesterol is the factor for heart disease. These experts argue that it may or may not be "good" and "bad" cholesterol. They also believe that factors such as physical activity, psychological stress and a change in body weight may influence the levels of cholesterol in the blood, and that high cholesterol in the blood is a reflection of an unhealthy lifestyle, but not dangerous.

The experts may not have the factors of cholesterol and heart disease. The one thing everyone agrees is that we all need to reduce risks and increase the quality of life.
