This article is an attempt to eliminate confusion about some of the issues associated with congenital heart defects.

Congenital heart defects is a kind of malformation or heart defect, which is somewhere in the center. In some cases, it is a defect, which is in one of the blood vessels of the heart. It is defined as congenital, because the defect occurs when a baby is born. It is firmly convinced that this type of heart defects to take place while the fetus is developing, but it is not clear at what point in time throughout the nine months that they hold. Of 1,000 children born, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. have this condition.

Some children show symptoms of congenital heart defects from the beginning of their lives, while other people do not show symptoms until later in their childhood. In other cases, such an error is not discovered until a person has become an adult. It is estimated that 500,000 American adults suffer from congenital heart disease.

Tries to be the cause of congenital heart defects is not easy. Most of the time the cause is unknown. Doctors and medical researchers have discovered factors that seem to suggest an increased risk for developing this disease, however. One of these risk factors is a chromosomal abnormality or a genetic abnormality, such as Down syndrome. Women who drink alcohol, take drugs or certain types of drugs during pregnancy tend to the birth of children with congenital heart defects. If a woman contracts a maternal viral infection such as rubella (also known as rubella) during the first trimester of pregnancy, it is rather the birth of a child with this disease.

If someone in the family, as a parent, grandparent or brother or sister was born with a heart defect then the risk for a child born in the family is even higher. For example, the risk for the general population is eight in 1000, but it will be 16 in 1000 for those with a family member.

It is more than one type of congenital heart diseases. Cardiac defects are very common and these are stenosis or narrowing of heart valves or in severe cases, valves, which are reduced, so that they can not allow blood by all. Leaking valves also fall under the category of cardiac defects. Atrial and ventricular septal defects, the defects in the walls between the atria and chambers of the heart cause some blood, the blood with oxygen and some who do not mix, can cause problems, in both the right and left area of the heart. Another type of congenital heart disease in the heart muscle abnormalities, which can then cause heart failure.

Congenital heart defects can cause the symptoms, but often there are no signs at all. Sometimes it is necessary to undergo medical tests to determine whether a person with this disease. If the symptoms are the two most common are shortness of breath and a decreased ability to perform.
